A change to the fixtures due to a closure of Spiceball in December meant that unusually the indoor league started in half term, meaning that availability was ‘patchy’ but we managed to put a team with a wide age range out for the first game against Freeland.
We looked stronger batting so on winning the toss we decided to have a bowl to know what we would have to chase.
Trying to sneak in a couple of overs at the start of the innings Dave freeman opened the bowling and finished the first over with figures of 1-3 clearly the opposition had never seen anything like it and were in several minds as each ball arrived a lot slower than they were expecting!
Harry Smith came on to bowl and considering he was recovering from a stag weekend in Hamburg kept up the economy rate.
Henry Simmonds and Thomas Cunningham kept things tight through overs 3 and 4, Freeman then tried to sneak in another over and managed to Burgle 2 more wickets.
A stumping by Joe Hirst off of Thomas Cunningham’s bowling following a catch by Harry off of Henry’s bowling meant that Freeland had to bat with caution to see out their ten overs. Some good fielding notably by Callum Ardron and Henry kept things tight. Meaning that Freeland finished on 71-5 and Dave finished with 3-12 off of 3 overs.
Opening up Joe Hirst 25 retired and Henry Simmonds 25 retired meant that it was left to our two youngsters Thomas and Callum to see us home off of only 4 overs, it was comforting to know that Harry Nursing a hangover and Dave telling everyone about his bowling were in the hutch should any more batting have been required.
Tougher challenges to come, and our next game is Tuesday 30th October 9.00pm please come along and support the team and if you want a game get in touch with Dave Freeman
