U15s play Combe in friendly
Last night a team made up primarily of the younger players in the squad took on Combe who were fielding a full strength team which included a number of talented district cricketers. Batting first Combe got off to a quick start but then struggled to score boundaries across a thick outfield and ended on 118 in their 20 overs. Olly Hart, Charlie Scotchbrook and Sam Lowe took a wicket each and Johnnie Parker bowled extremely well and was unlucky not to have claimed a victim or two. Two batsmen reached 30 at which point they retired. In reply we fought hard against a number of decent bowlers and reached 101 for 5 with Charlie Scotchbrook batting extremely well, punishing the bad ball and retiring on 30. At the end Milo Bilton (22) and Olly Hart showed great resilience and played very capably. Olly showed total commitment diving into the crease on two occasions to avoid being run out.
The boys should take a lot of positives from the game and gave a really good account of themselves. The two key areas they need to focus on is bowling in good areas as we bowled too many loose deliveries which were easy to wait for and to hit into the outfield and then, when batting, to respect straight, length balls as from memory virtually every wicket we lost was to a wild swing to a very straight ball. These are skills we can work on at training and that they should keep in their mind when playing generally.
Well done to everyone who played on what was a lovely summer’s evening.
