Another young 3rd XI team... BUT
We lost the match but James, Charlie & Harvey got the Golden Boot.
So another young side compared to the opposition, but some outstanding performances both as players and sportsmen. We won the toss and chose to bat. Unfortunately Sam English and Adam Din got hit early on by their openers, before they could really get going and Henry Simmonds managed 34 before catching an edge. The star of the batting on the day was Harvey Machin who pulled off an impressive 53 before getting bowled and Oscar rode out a subsequent collapse to end on 13 not out. A disappointing all out total of 153.
Charlie Gaskin was the outright star of the bowling and bowled out their opener Captain in a feat of poetic justice for just 8 runs early on and then went on to get another 3 wickets. Henry Simmonds got another couple and Harvey Machin a great LBW, but their young wicket keeper kept them in it until they'd reached the target and won the match.
I would like to make a special mention for James Churchill, who Captained the team in the absence of either senior coach with such an impressive maturity and good humour. He commands respect with his leadership skills but is well liked by all the team. I would take that and the above Golden Boots over a win any day.
Picture is of Charlie Gaskin's satisfying wicket, captured by pure luck and karma.
