Senior Teams Mid-Season Review – Tough But Improving…

  • 13th July 2017

It’s been a tough first half of the 2017 season for Great and Little Tew CC, with unprecedented availability issues (injuries, school and Uni commitments) meaning that sadly the 4th team have been withdrawn from the Cherwell league after forfeiting several games. The availability issues have knocked on to the 3rd team too, who are currently languishing at the bottom of division 6. However, their first win of the season last weekend at Sandford will hopefully kick-start their season and get them climbing up the table now that availability is improving.
The second team have hit a decent run of form that sees them currently mid-table in division 2. A stunning performance at home last Saturday – chasing down Didcot’s 300 in the final over, led by a remarkable 115 not out off 80 balls from captain Josh Garrett- should set them up for a strong July and August.
The first team have a battle on their hands in the Home Counties Premier League Div 1, currently in the relegation zone in second to bottom place, but very close behind the two teams above them. Some brilliant performances such as wins vs Horspath, Henley and Banbury have been tempered by poor performances vs fellow relegation candidates Burnham, Slough and Tring Park.
Generally our league teams have struggled with batting in the first half of the season, but form appears to be improving fast, with the 2’s and 3’s chasing down big targets last weekend.

Good luck to all three teams for the second half of the season.
